So we are having an argument and I think it will be fun to look back in a couple years and see who was right in a couple of years. So question is simple. Who do you think will be the first Canadian team to win the cup? List 1 through 7 who you think wins first. Please don`t trash other people`s picks as well.
1. Edmonton (I just think McDavid, Hall, and RNH cannot all retire without a cup) 2. Toronto (Smart management and good young pieces) 3. Montreal (Price) 4. Calgary (Young guns like Bennett and Gaudreau) 5. Winnepeg (Good drafting, plus solid team) 6. Ottawa (Karlsson) 7. Vancouver (getting younger atleast)
Flames, Jets, Sens, Leafs, Habs, Oilers, Nucks, in that order.
The Habs have the best chance this year, but Carey Price can only carry them so far. In a couple years, the Flames, Jets and Sens will be a legitimate threat. The Leafs will be a contender if their rebuild is done right, and I just don't have faith in the Oilers or Canucks.

1. Canadiens - Seeing as the question is who will win the cup first the Canadiens have by far the best opportunity at the moment. They're at the top of the league, the East is weaker than the West, and if all the pieces fall correctly, they could win.
2. Oilers - The Oilers have to have short odds to win at some point given their star power. I don't think they'll win it in the next few years, but I don't really see the teams below winning it before then either.
3. Jets - Get someone consistent in goal before the Ladd - Little - Wheeler window closes, and we could be on to something.
4. Leafs - They're starting to acquire solid pieces, but we're still several years and at least one superstar away from being anywhere near a threat. Can Nylander become that superstar? Perhaps. Could Stamkos? Definitely. Toronto can always dream, right?
5. Senators - I think Ottawa can be consistently good for years to come, but I don't see them blazing a trail to the SCF.
6. Flames - I just don't see it. I think this season is more representative of their capabilities than last season was, and with the other teams in the West, they'll be facing a massive wall to climb for years to come.
7. Canucks - The window has closed, and the rebuild isn't in full force.

1. Canadiens - The favorites for the next 3 years going forward, the core of Price, Patches, Gally, Subban, Chucky will be here for years to come and after that we have incredible depth at all posistions. Also this team is so much more then the Carey Price show like people say, some stats for this season so far: We are top 5 in goals for and against, Powerplay and PK, our Corsi is at 53.3 which is good for fourth in the league. The Habs have the next 3 years as Canada's top team (if not more) also factor in that we are in a weaker division and the fact we are on top the the NHL with Price being injured for about half the season. Also our GM is a fucking Wizard, and nobody else can claim that. We are by far the most likley Canadien team to win the cup.
2. Jets - If they get a good goalie, there top line is mint and they have insane up and coming depth (Ehlers is the real deal) just need a goalie.
3. Senators - They are gonna live and die by there goaltending, I don't think Anderson can take you to the glory land and after that its up in the air, Hammond is not as good as he was last year, but hes not 3 goals on 3 shots in the AHL terrible. They do have some depth though. Also Karlson
4. Oilers, I mean once they a mass a team of all number 1 picks they have to win right? JK, but if they get some defence those forwards should be unstopable
5. Flames - They have the start of something but last year they got way to much puck luck and you can see it this year. 3-4 years down the road they are looking good.
6. Leafs - I think they are 2-3 from making the playoffs, another year or 2 from really being contenders and then once they have all there players from the minors being brought up the right way they have a chance. Also Babcock, maybe Stamcock?? who knows.
7. Canucks - They are rebuilding, it may not be a full on tank rebuild but there time has come and gone.

1. Habs - Assuming Price can stay healthy, they are the only Canadian team with a chance any time soon.
2. Jets - They are a solid team right now. Few pieces missing, but otherwise they'll have a real shot soon.
3. Oilers - Good GM. Good players. Young players. Let the team develop a bit and they'll be a force.
4. Leafs - Best coach in the league, some really amazing talent in the minors. If we're talking about chances to win, these guys are there right after the Oilers. I may argue they'll get there sooner, but that's a toss up.
5. Flames - No real comment on these guys. They need a lot of work but not as much as those below them.
6. Sens - Only reason they made the playoffs last year was because of Hammond. Same happened with Reimer and the Leafs a little while back. It won't last and it didn't. Sens aren't even close.
7. I think everyone else covered why the 'Nucks are last on this list already.

1. Jets - solid prospects at all positions
2. Flames - just really missing a goalie, especially now that Dougie is getting used to their system
3. Sens -Decent prospects, just really need a solid no.1 to step up and stay healthy (they proved this last yr with the Hamburglar run)
4. Habs - TBH they have the best chance now, but with the supremcy of the West and their reliance on Price still. If the Habs got another 2 solid scorers I think they could come out of the East for a SC appearance, but it is going to take a Thomas type performance, by Price, to have them win it all.
5. Oilers - McD, really good but only time will tell, I think they might end up trading away Hall for a no.1 blueliner. McD is their superstar and Hall's time is over (never liked the guy anyway). Development will be the story here of whether they become a playoff team soon, or squander all those no.1 picks
6. Leafs - Babcock is the key, and it looks like it could work, but it is going to take a few years before they make a run for the Cup.

I guess you really didn't think the nucks will do anything anytime soon if you did not even mention them hahah.

Haha, yea I just realized it, but I am predisposed to hating them because I am a Hawks fan and the Canucks stood in our way in the playoffs so many years. Man do I hate Kesler....Sedins'.....
1. Montreal: (Only because it's first, not best chances overall going forward). If they can hold serve while Price is out, the East is still there for them to take.
2. Jets: Have you seen our young talent? Have you? HAVE YOU? Ehlers is just the tip- Hellebyuck is the goaltender of the future, Someday it'll be Petan and Ehlers on a line together with Scheifele (swoons), plenty of D-man talent (which gets even better if we trade for Hamonic), and honestly if we played in the Pacific or something we wouldn't be on the outside looking in (goddamn the Central is brutal). Not to mention Armia, De Leo, Kyle Connor, Jack Roslovic, Brendan Lemieux, ok I'll stop, but you get my point. In a year or two, the Jets are going to be fucking scary, and they already do at times now.
3. Flames: Tough choice over the Sens, but I think the Flames have the young talent to be a top team soon- they need to possess the puck better, and for their sake Ortio better be good. I think that'll happen, but who knows.
4. Senators: Good young players, do they have the top end? And do they have a goalie of the future now that Lehner's gone? I don't really think Hammond will be the answer, so can Craig Anderson stay healthy and competent long enough for them to progress into a contender?
5. Oilers: McDavid is the answer, right? Just like Taylor Hall, RNH, Eberle, and Yak were, right? You feel like they should get there, but will they? We've been waiting on that one for a while, and you gotta feel like that core of forwards gets broken up if they don't make the playoffs next year.
6. Leafs: Babcock is a good, good start. Now get rid of the majority of the players and develop prospects and continue to do that for 5 years. If they actually stick to that and don't stop early just because one year they're in a Wild Card spot at New Year's, then they'll be on track.
7. Canucks: They're clearly on the decline, but boy are they pretending that's not happening. They're not making the playoffs this year, or next.
If we can get our Defence figured out and our FWD develop like they are supposed to then we can be in for a hell of a ride in two years. Kyle Turris is a 1C, Hopefully ZBAD turns into a 1C. Hopefully Nick Paul turns into a very effective 3rd line option or a good 2nd line center. And JGP could be one of the best 4C in the NHL. We have Tobias Lindberg and Matt O'Conner in the AHL. Then we have Perron who has 47 points in 24 games in the QJHML, Colin White has 21 points in 14 games for Boston College as a freshman, and Chabot is looking more like a steal at the 18th pick every game he plays for St. John. Plus we have a 18 goaltender starting in the SHL and putting up pretty good numbers. So our system is't dry. This team is exciting and I really think my blinded optimism is somewhat justified.
