Just thought I would make a whole new thread for this is anybody had any ideas that they wanted brought to the courthouse.
I know we have already brought up the idea of Shots on Goal as a scoring catagory that will be voted on.
I thought of something like takeaways or maybe even turnovers as a catagory. I was watching the VAN-LA game last night and Luca Sbisa, who is on my team, cleared the puck down the ice about 6 or 7 times in 2 penalty killing shifts. I just kept hearing Sbisa's name said over and over again, and it is because he played incredibly well on the penalty kill. I feel a little cheated that for all the great work he did, he scored me a total of 0.0 points during those 2 shifts.
I don't know what stats Fantrax keeps track of but I think we should vote on more catagories. Guys who play are scoring 0, not because they don't do anything, but because they aren't an enforcer or a scorer. Just because a big goal scorer doesn't get a goal doesn't mean he did nothing. I believe we should at least check out which scoring catagories are options and vote on the ones that could be good for the league next season, but I would like some other opinions as well.
All good points and ideas, but nothing would be brought to the courthouse until the offseason.
But i do think SOG should be added next year. I also think we should incorporate +/- and would want to vote on that again. Even if it was worth 0.1 pts.
Takeways/Turnovers could be interesting. Not sure where I stand on that yet.
I agree with you that Takeaway/TO can get a little crazy because of how often they happen and how sometimes they aren't completely one person's fault, but if fantrax keeps track of them it could be good. Like I said I just felt like Sbisa played great last night but got no fantasy points for it and I'm sure it isn't the first case of a Dman playing well but not getting a ton of hits/blocks.
I think most people will be in agreement for SOG, but one stat that's super valuable in real hockey is penalties drawn. Does Fantrax have the ability to measure that? If so, I think that would add a whole new dynamic to things.
Unforutnately, I do not see a penalty drawn scoring category, but I was actually thinking about this a couple weeks ago and thought it'd be cool. I'll email fantrax about it, maybe they'll add it for next year.
There is takeway/giveaway scoring options on fantrax.
I like the penalties drawn categories, if we could implement it. I strongly disagree against takeaways and giveaways because the best players turn it over the most, and currently we have basically one offensive category which is points (goals, assists, pp points), but we have so many defensive categories like PIM, hits, blocks, and then takeaways. Players who are always on the right side on the puck, but don't score too many points get no love from our stats, but guys who get stuck in their own zone for a minute and a half will score points by simply blocking a shot, checking someone and taking a stupid penalty at the end of the shift. And to argue the Sbisa point, I see players like Crosby make beautiful passes, but a teammate cannot score. And if we put this in, then not only will the good defensive efforts be scored, but so will the ones where the player virtually did nothing, while if a player hits a crossbar 3 times in a game he can finish with zero points.

One thing to consider with adding skater stats, is that they will adversely affect goalies if the existing points are not re-weighted. I think it would be unfair to those of us who went high on goalies in the first few rounds if skaters get a comparative boost across the board.
I talked with Fantrax and they said that penalties drawn are not available at this time until their stat provider starts incorporating them. He said he'd reach out to the provider and ask about penalties drawn.
I would propose adding 1 point per overtime loss for goalies. It's a rough break having a game go to a shootout, and seeing one guy walk away with 3 points, while the other gets nothing.
