I don't have anywhere else to post this so i am posting it here, every time I think I have come to terms with this cluster fuck I get pissed again. I have never been this emotional at sports ever. Not when I saw the Mooseheads win the Q, or the CHL. Not at game 5 of the Jays vs Rangers this past fall. Not at the Gomez trade or Kovy and Koivu leaving. This is the second worse day for the Habs since 1993 the worst being Jean Béliveau's passing.
So let me start off this rant by talking about Shea Webber. Webber is an elite offensive talent in the NHL with the hardest shot and is an incredible player. He was the face of the Nashville franchise for
years and was there first major superstar and I am pumped that he is a Montreal Canadien, he is gonna wear the jersey with pride, win hockey games for the CH and maybe help them win a cup.
There is just
one problem, in the eyes of Montreal fans he will never be PK Subban and he will always be the guy we got for Montreal's biggest star. To most Habs fans that were not around when Roy or Chelios (like me) deals this is the worst
trade in teams history, I think it may not be the worst but will be in the top 5 for another 100 years.
There are two parts to this trade the on ice and the off ice and although you can make an argument either way that one is better then the other on ice. Off ice no one will come close to what PK did for the
team, the city and the proveince for a very long time. Lets look at the on ice first I have the HERO charts from 2013-2016.
2013 public.tableau.com/shared/YX9C4RQM9?:display_count=yes
2014 public.tableau.com/shared/9J8H6T4FJ?:display_count=yes
2015 public.tableau.com/shared/DRP6KN3GQ?:display_count=yes
2016 public.tableau.com/shared/44WNCD6F7?:display_count=yes
As you can see Pk has been getting better, Webber has been getting worse. This is a visualization of the 2016 stats pbs.twimg.com/media/CmJSjF1UoAEl3rW.jpg Subban only looses in 3 catagories only slightly, but he
beats him in every other category and does it quite convincingly in some of the categories. Another chart on how they impact there teams at even strength pbs.twimg.com/media/CmJyQ6MWYAATGeS.png:large
Now lets look people will say that PK is too reckless and makes mistakes. But in reality he only turns the puck over 0.2% more then Webber. That is maybe a goal a year, lets get real it is not even a goal a year.
Also if you looks at the league it is changing, for a very long time it was about size and fights and hits and big guys. The NHL is no longer that. We have more top 6 guys under 6 feet then ever before
speed kills as they say, Pittsburgh, Chicago prove that theory and puck movement is becoming the most important thing. The stay at home D man is a thing of the past, if you can not be trusted to move the puck
every time you will loose your job.
The Mike Kommiserick's and Luke Schene's are being traded in for the Ghostbear's and Klingberg's. it is clear that Subban is the superior player. The numbers favour him in shot
suppression, shot generation, play making and point production, and most importantly, possession. That being said Webber does score more goals then Subban I will give him that No arguments there.
In 10 fewer games played, Subban made ~600 more plays with the puck than Weber last season at 5vs5 alone, this is the new NHL and this is why we loose this trade. On top of that we only save 1.1M in cap
space but Weber is older, slower and his contract goes until he is 40. Not many guys play at an elite level at the age of 40. It should be noted that the age at which most players have there best year is 27, which is Subban's age.
As it stands, statistical analysis dictates that the Habs have downgraded from their top defender, and for an older model to boot.
Weber is still a great player, and nobody should try to argue otherwise. The problem is that the Canadiens gave up a younger, and better player to get him. There is no two ways about it, Montreal would have been
better off to stick with the player that they drafted, and eventually signed to a long-term deal. here is an article from the preds SB nation page www.ontheforecheck.com/2015/7/23/9019367/shea-weber-may-have-started-declining
even they knew he was declining. He is a great D man but he is going to be bad one day and PK will still be good when that day comes. www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/p-k-subban-trade-may-worst-canadiens-history/ more on this here
That is part one, part two is what PK did off the ice this is why so many of us are upset, he meant more to the city then anyone since Jean Béliveau the greatest Hab ever. Here is an interview with Eric
Engels the Habs beat reporter with Sportsnet, he says what everyone is thinking and we all know he is right www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/subbans-community-presence-makes-tough-act-follow/
Everyone in Montreal is pissed www.habseyesontheprize.com/2016/6/29/12061540/pk-subban-trade-analysis-shea-weber-montreal-canadiens-worst-trade-ever-fire-bergevin an article from the biggest habs fan website
www.tsn.ca/radio/montreal-690/p-k-subban-trade-caller-reaction-1.518131 a 10 minute section of the call ins on Montrea'ls TSN radio station. PK was the fans favorite player.
He was the embodiment of the
CH and it will take a very long time for us to get over this. This is Roy or Chelios all over again and these types of trades are why the greatest hockey franchise in the world has been without a cup since 1993
.
PK is a god in Montreal and rightly so, he meant so much to the city. “There’s going to be a lot of crying children here,” she (A Montreal Social Worker) added. “It’s not just the donation he made. He showed up here unannounced all the
time, he developed relationships with them, brightened their lives. He was a God to them.” And BTW since PK is a man of his word unlike MB he has pledged to continue his work and give his money to the hospital
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPGLy-Jv0lI These kids could be spending there last Christmas ever in a hospital, I had to spend a Christmas like that when my grandfather went through a scare and it was
the worst holiday I have ever had, these are kids and he brings them so much joy a few hours of happiness or how about this one www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CoGlVX9LjE or how about this one www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FEMMEJluzM
he does this time and time again and brings so much more to the community then just his hockey. And no disrespect to Nashville but Subban and hockey will never be as big there as he was here.
He is known to get out of his car and play street hockey in the suburbs, just because he can. He has a just for laughs festival this summer that he is hosting because people want to see him.
He has fashion commercials, and adds and if it can have PK Subbans face on it, it does The whole city is worse off and is going to loose money from this.
Goaltender Carey Price is the Habs uncontested leader and one of the most revered athletes in Montreal’s recent history, but Subban was the people’s champion, an irrepressible, larger-than-life personality who was the closest thing the
Habs had to a spiritual heir to bygone heroes such as Guy Lafleur, Jean Béliveau, and Maurice Richard.
Another terrible part is that the last image Montreal fans will have of Subban is of him leaving the ice on a stretcher on March 10, courtesy of a collision with a teammate. We didn't even know we had seen his last game in the CH that night.
There will be We want PK chants all year and fire MB and fire MT chants all year
and there should be this is one of the worst trades we have ever made. PK was more then hockey, he was everything they had lacked in the last 30 years he wore the CH with pride and was the embodiment of what we love about the Habs
and there ideals.
"To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high," we also live it out at the start of every season with the same ceremony www.youtube.com/watch?v=AK6v1gfEcpk
This quote is always in the Habs locker room and PK was the guy who held the torch the highest and he is gone cause we have a backwards ass coach and GM
who are to busy in the fucking fox hole and trying to play a type of hockey that is dead rather then trying to win a cup. Every year they live out this quote when introducing the team for the year too video.canadiens.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=450016
Hockey truly is a religion in Montreal and we just lost a third of the trinity.
And one more note, PK Subbans best friend on the team is Carey Price, and his other good friend, Brendan Gallagher, those 3 where the heart and soul. Price is a free agent and 2 years and you bet your fucking ass he will remember this when it is
his turn to re-sign or not re-sign with the club.
As for now free agency is tomorrow and unless MB goes out and makes 1 if not 2 huge splashes while freeing up cap space the team is a worse spot then we left off and even then this is everyone's worst nightmare Fuck MT and FUCK MB and fuck Molson for letting them do it.
We had a shot at the cup in the next few years and we have made that shot worse with this deal.
Both the GM and coach are dead to me. I have been defending them for a long time but fuck them I can't wait for this to blow up in there faces and get fired.
That being said I still love hockey I still love the Habs and I still love the players we including our new number one D man and I cannot wait for the season to start.
