So right now we said we are expanding by 7 prospects a year. Some people have reached out to me that this was not enough and wanted to expand by more.
After we decide on the increments, we will vote on a max.
This is how the increments would work:
- 7 Prospects Per Year - We have a 7 round Entry Draft for only 2016 eligible prospects. You can then add/drop as you wish and stay under our limit.
- 10 Prospects Per Year - We have a 7 round Entry Draft for only 2016 eligible prospects. We then add 3 prospects from any draft class post draft. This would work under our same 1 prospect add per day rules.
- 13 Prospects Per Year - We have a 7 round Entry Draft for only 2016 eligible prospects. We then add 6 prospects from any draft class post draft. This would work under our same 1 propsect add per dday rules.
Of course, all this would depend on trades during the Entry draft as teams like Chicago would have more than 7 picks in the entry draft and teams likes the Rangers would have less than 7 picks.
I think 10 is solid. I'd love to expand by 10 each year until we hit a 60 prospect limit, but that max limit is what we vote on next after we know the increment we raise by each year.
For this year I say 10 and is be open to even 13. This is because we don't get that many prospects this year and there will be 7 rounds of players from next year and that would allow us to pick up the scraps from this draft next year wish would be nice cause there will be a lot of good talent left over
I personally don't like 10 or 13 because I don't like the idea of having to make sure you are on exactly at whenever the next day starts to pick up who you want because that could be pretty inconvenient depending on what timezone it is.
I also think if we do 7 then we could hit 55 after 5 years which seems like a pretty good pace.

I understand what you mean, but if you have more than 7 picks in the entry draft or less than 7 picks in the entry draft....then you need to think about adding/dropping players.
The cutoff won't be the following day, BUT you still need to think about it. Regardless of how many we expand by, this will be a thing.

A couple people having 1 or 2 picks is a lot different than everybody have 2-4 picks though or even more if we do 13. A lot more competition that way.
Could we just make it a 10 round draft, and you would be able to pick from already available prospects the whole time as well? I would be way more down for 10 that way.

I dont know about that. I know I'd prefer to keep it the same as the NHL draft. If somebody 2nds and 3rds you I'd be open to voting on it, but seems silly to me.

I am in the more prospects the merrier, I like the idea of at least 10 but voted for 13. I have many players that I would like in this draft, and the next one in a year. I feel like everyone gets a chance during the draft, if they want to trade to pick up an extra prospect why should they be limited just bc of the draft.
Also, if we add to little to the prospect pool, trades may be limited because someone can't add another prospect.

I'll second this. I think we should be able to choose players from draft classes. Whether the number of picks is 7 or 10 is somewhat irrelevant, but I do think that we shouldn't be constricted to the current draft class.
Out of the options presented above, I'm currently in the 7 camp. I think turnover from graduating players will allow for natural replenishment of prospects from previous draft classes, and I think having a FA pool for prospects also makes things slightly more interesting.

I prefer to keep the draft to 7 rounds, and let the excess be for picking up FAs or allow the room for trades that include prospects. I know that I don't want to be forced to take a veteran over a prospect just because I was forced to draft in 10 rounds. I also don't like the idea of drafting players that I am just going to drop because of the limit. So 7 rounds with 3 FA prospect wiggle room seems best, I am going to change my vote to 10.

Really? I think this is SUPER weird. This league is suppose to try and mirror the real NHL. The real NHL has an entry draft for that years eligible prospects. Not all of those propsects make the team or get signed. Some get dropped. And then some teams sign free agent prospects. I'd like for us to mirror that.
I think the only reason you guys are thinking this is because the current prospet draft (not entry draft) is allowing all propsects to be drafted...and that our limit is very low so there are going to be ok propsects from other draft classes available.
I think this is why I enjoy the 10 increase as it's 7 prospects from the new draft class and then we can add 3 from any draft class.
Anyway, if somebody 3rds that, I'll make a poll after the max propsect limit poll.

I agree with Rangers, I prefer to mirror the NHL and the 10 prospects give you the opportunity to get 3 extra outside the 7 from the draft
Hey guys btw if you do the math the NHL has 7 rounds but 30 teams and that equals 210 prospects. If you divide that by 20(our number of teams) you get 10.5 rounds of just prospects from next year so even if we spend all 10 rounds on prospects from next year there will still be players left over
