I am kinda bored and waiting for my next class just thinking out loud here. This league is awesome and a lot of fun, but something I feel that could bring more parity to it is Salery caps and contracts. Right now there is nothing stopping the best teams from sitting on the best players. If you have someone they are yours until you decide to get rid of them.
Contrast this to the real NHL where you need to look at cap constraints and contract lengths all those types of things. I was thinking if there would be support to moving us more towards that system some time in the future. If we impossed a salery cap I don't think it should be the same as the NHL one, we don't have control like real GMs do but we could make ours 10-30% higher and it would still put a crunch on GMs deciding who to keep and who to trade.
I was thinking that when a player re-signs or signs with a new team his old owner (in our league) gets the first shot at keeping him if he does not want him then he goes to free agency. We would then go through another draft going from worst to best each round. So as an example when David Clarkson was signed by the Maple Leafs who ever his current owner was gets to decide if he wants him, then if he says yes he keeps him at his new Salery but if he says no then he would go into our next draft.
This draft could be lined up to coencide with our keepers draft at the end of the year or could be seperate. It could also help people decide who they want to keep as they may not be worth the money to them. As every year there are guys who get to much money and every knows it was a bad deal.
I know this idea has been floated before, just seeing what people think about it.
