League Trade Vote: Veto or No Veto

Hi everyone,

I understand why this trade was brought to a vote and would like to take this opportunity to explain my point of view of what's happened. 

Before I get into that, I'd like to explain how this trade came to be. As many of you know, when I approach GMs about players, it usually starts out with me asking how you value the player I'm interested in. This can be phrased a few ways, but generally it's along the lines of "what do you want for x?" The conversation with LA went the same way. I asked about Hopkins and Connor and was told he wanted McGinn and a 5th. I asked if he was willing to do a 6th and he agreed. That was the end of our discussion. 

There was no mention that he was leaving the league, there was no indication to me that this was a dump by him (usually player dumps are far more obvious than something like that) and I read the trade as him trying to go through more of a win-now type mentality than anything else. This is backed by the quote Rob made below:

"I kinda needed to do something cause im starting to skid the wrong way... But be assured that im not gonna go and start trading all careless. Im gonna play to my fullest the whole way."

This trade by LA was done intentionally by him and without the intent of dumping players. It was a risky move and he knew what he was doing. 

Next, as Rob stated, this is being brought to a vote not because of the trade itself, but because LA is leaving the league. Furthermore, Rob stated there are 3 reasons why a trade may be called to a veto:

1) When there was malicious activity involved
2) The overall balance of the league is now in jeopardy due to the trade
3) The GM was dumping players due to him quitting

While I agree with most that I "win" this trade, that's not why this is being brought to a vote. It's being brought because there's a thought that LA may have been dumping his players in anticipation of him leaving the league. However, he did state above that this was not the case. 

There's my side of the story. I look forward to hearing the thoughts of others and hope everyone can keep an open mind when voting. 

Edit: To keep things fair, I won't vote in this poll either.

I believe I WON'T Veto the trade but that above statement should be mentioned.
While it obliviously favours Toronto by 10 Billion miles it just seems like he took advantage of a moment that I wish I did.

I want to echo Juuso's reasoning, as it matches my own. I certainly don't fault Toronto for proposing the trade but the situation appears to be such that a rash trade was made by an outgoing player, and I want to reaffirm Juuso's sentiment that in my view, upholding the trade is not in the best interest of the league.

Every trade has a winner and a loser. Each party should wholeheartedly believe that they won the trade. I don't fault you for accepting a trade that you thought you would win - any one of us would have done the same thing. However, no matter what precedents it may set, it's very hard to look at the value involved in the trade, and the fact that LA plans on leaving the league, regardless of whether or not you were aware at the time, and not see that something doesn't add up.

It's obvious that he didn't try shopping either of his players around. Both of the players alone could've received much more than McGinn, who is performing slightly worse than most roster players, and a 6th round pick, which i believe translates to around  a 3rd or 4th round pick. Even if he's going to be out for months, the return he and another 1st round pick got is very suspicious. If anyone knew Connor or Hopkins were available and/or made a bid, please say something.

These are just my thoughts.

Let it be known I do not think Toronto would do anything directly malicious to make this deal made (I'll come back to this), I just don't see a reason for it, so option A is out of the question. While I want to say option B could be an option, that would be a biased opinion since Nuge is still a great player, so I will ignore option B.

Option C however is where I start to think something may have happened.
When I look at what LAK said here "Just a heads up too. I might be leaving the league. Im gonna finish the season. But im still undecided. Ill give you my answer after a champion is crowned." and "Its just the constant trade offers every day has become an annoyance. Sometimes saying no is not good enough." I read that and see....how long has he thought about leaving, if he has thought about leaving for awhile now and the trade talks were annoying him, then maybe this was partially a way to get people off his back in a sense. Toronto could have just been his final straw and indirectly caused him to make a trade he normally would not make.

I get it everything I said here is hypothetical and all my thoughts but that is how I am interpreting it right now. For those reasons I am leaning on the side of of Vetoing however feel free to try to persuade me to the other side.

Well now I will vote yes, as it seems LA will be leaving us sooner than expected. Best of luck moving forward Phil. Nice meeting you.
