As you probably saw this morning, there was a potentially questionable trade this morning. The trade was as follows:
Toronto Trades:
Jamie McGinn
6th Round Pick
for
Los Angeles Trades:
Ryan Nugent Hopkins
Kyle Connor
Although I do think this trade has a winner, I don't think that is the reason we are bringing this up for veto.
We are bringing this up for veto because Phil, GM of the Los Angeles Kings, will be leaving the league. This brings up a whole bunch of questions of why he made this trade when he was considering leaving the league.
Before you vote, try not to think about the value of the trade. A veto should only be made when there was malicious activity involved, if the balance of the league was impacted due to an incredibly lopsided trade or if someone was just dumping players for the sake of it.
Since the GM is leaving, this might be a case of Option 3, but that is what we need to decide.
After the trade I reached out to Phil about the trade and he said,
"Well, my players keep getting injured and there is no free agents that are worth it. I kinda needed to do something cause im starting to skid the wrong way.
Just a heads up too. I might be leaving the league. Im gonna finish the season. But im still undecided. Ill give you my answer after a champion is crowned. Its just the constant trade offers every day has become an annoyance. Sometimes saying no is not good enough. I have to explain myself to some people. But be assured that im not gonna go and start trading all careless. Im gonna play to my fullest the whole way."
So he wasn't exactly sure he would be leaving the league when he made the trade.
I will remind again, when voting don't think about value. If you feel this trade was done a) out of malicious intent from Toronto b) overall balance of the league is now in jeopardy due to the trade or c) the GM was dumping players due to him quitting", vote yes. If not, vote no.
Good luck!
