Hey folks! It's been a little while since we discussed potential rule changes in this league, but with the league nearing the end of its 4th season, and a dispersal draft nearing, perhaps some changes might be welcome?
At this point, I'd encourage people to highlight potential rule changes that could address potential issues you've noticed. No idea is too crazy at this point, so lets try to get some discussion going, and we can vote on rule changes later on in the off-season!
Here's the last discussion we had on this: redditdynastyhockey.freeforums.net/thread/390/rules-ideas-discussion-thread
I'll start with a couple:
Rule Change: Waivers for players who are no longer prospect eligible
Perceived Problem: Not all young players who play over 100 GP are fantasy-relevant, but we currently need to roster them or lose them for nothing.
Proposed Solution: Allow players who have over 100 GP (50 GP) to be sent back to the minors via waivers. Teams can claim a player being sent down, but must then keep them on their main roster.
Rule Change: Increase the games played limit for prospects
Perceived Problem: Players who have over 100 GP (50 GP) need to be protected in the waiver draft even when they may not be fantasy relevant. This is specifically a concern with goalies. Other than Vasilevskiy, Murray and Hellebuyck, most goalies tend to spend significant time in backup roles.
Proposed Solution: Increase the limit to something along the lines of 180 GP (100 GP).
Rule Change: Implement a contract system
Perceived Problem: There is little incentive for teams to trade top players.
Proposed Solution: Players must be signed to a contract (and salary?), which expires after X years. There will be a certain number of contract slots, e.g. 6 x 5 year slots, 8 x 4 year slots, 10 x 3 year slots, and unlimited 1 year slots (intended for waiver wire adds). GMs have more incentive to trade players on expiring contracts.
Rule Change: Reduce the roster size
Perceived Problem: The waiver wire is too shallow
Proposed Solution: Reduce the roster size to 20 players, thereby increasing the size of the waiver wire by 80 players.
Lets hear some of your thoughts and suggestions!
